Those of you who have ever used Fandango to buy movie tickets may be familiar with the survey that's emailed to you shortly after your purchase. There are two different versions of it that you can take: a full version, where you write a full review of the movie you've just watched; and for the lazier demographic who have more important things to spend their time writing about, a much abbreviated version that asks you to describe the movie in five words. I fall into the latter category, so of course I took the shorter version. My five words?
"JOHNNY DEPP'S AMAZING, MARRY ME"
Just kidding. It was: "VISUALLY STUNNING, WORTH WATCHING IMAX"
I've seen a lot of friends asking whether its worth forking over the extra bucks to watch Alice in the IMAX 3D version, and my answer to all of you is YES, YES, YES. I've come across a few reviews that have complained that the quality of the 3D effects in Alice are not up to par with the ones used in "Up" but let's face it, we've all been guilty of spending more than a couple bucks on another drink at a bar that we *definitely* did not need. So suck it up and splurge on the IMAX version!
Whatever the movie lacked in the 3D special effects department, the costume design more than made up for it. I was absolutely IN LOVE with the costumes in the movie. Every single one of the dresses worn were to die for.
I was not surprised to find out that Colleen Atwood was the genius behind them all. She's responsible for these beautiful designs..
Memoirs of a Geisha
Nine
Edward Scissorhands
Sweeney Todd
Atwood's been nominated for eight Academy Awards, two of which she has won and her resume reads like a list of prestigious blockbusters. Talk about amazing talent. That must be the most amazing job to have.
Anyway, I'm currently obsessed with everything Alice.. from her trademark shade of powder blue to the feminine frilly dresses and strange fantasy garden world. If only life was really like a fairy tale.. and I say that more because I wish I could wear those beautiful princess gowns everyday and not look like a freak, not because I want my Prince Charming. Although.. that would be nice too.
